We understand that people come to Cornwall to enjoy its unique environment. It’s a place where you can still gaze at the night sky on a clear evening and see a vast array of stars in incredible detail because of the lack of light pollution. We also understand that probably, like us, you want to have as little impact as possible on the environment during your stay. We have therefore tried to consider how we can help you achieve that.
We recycle all our waste at Little Fursdon. We will provide you with bins that are coded for the different types of waste and at the end of your stay we will ensure that as much of it as possible is recycled or composted.
All our water is from a borehole fed from the clear water of Bodmin Moor. It is filtered and checked by the council every year to ensure its purity and it tastes absolutely fantastic. We have also installed solar panels on the roof of the “Cow Shed Kitchen” to provide you with all the free hot water you need for washing and showering and you will also have use of our re-chargeable lanterns which you can charge manually or use our mains supply.
Bring your bikes so that you can explore Bodmin Moor and the local coastal areas using pedal power. For the inexperienced cyclist, you can combine a bike ride with a train ride. Cycle downhill to Looe, have a refreshing swim and come back on the train along the Looe Valley Line to avoid the strain of the uphill cycle home. You can transport your bikes free of charge!
You could also take your bikes for a ride along the Camel Trail. It is one of the most popular off road cycling facilities. This 18 mile, traffic free cycle way, passes through some of the most spectacular countryside in the south west. Following the disused railway line once used by the London and South West Railway, cyclists hug the Camel Estuary from Padstow to Wadebridge before joining the route through the wooded Camel Valley to Bodmin. For the more adventurous cyclist you can carry on up to the moor to the village of Blisland.
Finally, if you arrive by public transport, we will give you a 10% reduction in the cost of your holiday and collect you from the local station. [Liskeard]
If you are coming without a car, why not order your shopping on-line and have it delivered for your arrival day. We will put any perishable/frozen shopping in the fridge/freezer for you.
So you see, we are keen to be green and we are trying to do as much as we can to help you to enjoy a low carbon holiday that causes the least impact to our environment. We have been awarded South East Cornwall Tourist Association’s Green Acorn for our efforts in sustainable tourism.
